Not sure if anyone remembers the MMORPG titled "Dungeons and Dragons Online" that came out in 2006. Well, it is free to download and play now.
http://www.ddo.com/I took the bait and gave it a whirl. I have a 1 Fighter / 1 Cleric running around in chainmail with a +1 Sahguin (fishpeople) Bane Greataxe.
Having played multiple MMORPG's, here are some things worth noting:
1. There is no "auto attack," melee characters are clicky (ie left mouse click to attack).
2. All outdoor and dungeon zones are instances for solo or party only.
3. All quest instances have a difficulty rating you can set. Casual - Normal - Hard - Elite - Epic (not always available) - This affects loot / XP and how many party members you need.
4. Dungeons are very interactive, there are many breakable objects, levers / switches, traps, basically anything you would normally interact with in a normal table top game.
5. There is a DM / Narrator that descibes dungeons as you enter them and certain areas in them. Cool feature.
6. The character build and play is very faithful to the actual pen and paper game. They even have "rest" shrines for parties to camp at and regain spells in dungeons and outdoor areas (only useable once per time in the instance).
The graphics aren't top-notch since it is a few years old and an MMORPG, but that just means everyone should be able to run it! I am on the Thelanis (sp?) server if anyone else wants to try it.
